A father who contacted law enforcement about his own son inadvertently exposed his alleged mistreatment when authorities uncovered disturbing details. Thomas Barker, aged 44, faces charges of improper behavior toward a child after reporting his 11-year-old son for disobedience and not following instructions. However, upon police arrival at his residence, the situation took a different turn.
According to a statement from the Orangeburg County Sheriff’s Office, Baker was the actual perpetrator, accused of making threats towards a child requesting food. The child reported being told, “leave my room or face consequences,” escalating to violent suggestions like using a knife.
Reports from lawandcrime.com reveal that Baker explicitly refused to assist his son in any circumstances, even stating, “I’d pour gas on you if you were on fire.” Video evidence provided to the sheriff’s office captured the incident.
Sheriff Leroy Ravenell commented on the situation, drawing a parallel to a biblical verse and emphasizing the severity of the mistreatment. The child has since been relocated to a family member’s care.
In a separate incident, a father has been charged with multiple counts of child abuse after subjecting his three young children, aged two, four, and eight, to a challenging hike through rugged terrain. Distressing footage during the hike showed the children expressing fear for their safety as the father persisted despite their concerns.
Court documents from Law & Crime indicate that what started as a seemingly harmless outing turned hazardous, with the father prioritizing his goal of reaching the mountain peak over his children’s well-being. Despite pleas from the children and their mother to turn back, he continued, leaving them cold, exhausted, and longing to return home. The indictment describes the father’s actions as selfish and endangering, contrary to his role as their protector.
