Authorities have reported that a raccoon, known for causing chaos, broke into a liquor store and ended up intoxicated by the toilets, revealing that this was not its first offense. Initially mistaken for a burglary due to the store being in disarray with broken bottles scattered, the situation took a surprising turn when police found the raccoon passed out in the store in Virginia on November 29.
Animal Protection Officer Samantha Martin disclosed that this raccoon had a history of breaking into various buildings, including a karate studio and a Department of Motor Vehicles office where it even indulged in some snacks.
Despite the temptation to relocate the mischievous creature, the department refrained from doing so as it would likely result in the raccoon’s demise, highlighting its intelligence in finding its way back into the same building. The raccoon gained global attention for its antics at the Ashland ABC Store, where it caused a commotion by toppling bottles before passing out, leading to its safe retrieval by authorities for sobering up.
Officer Martin recounted the incident, mentioning the raccoon’s strategic retreat to the bathroom and the chaotic scene left behind. Following a period of rest and observation, the raccoon was released back into the wild unharmed, with a gentle reminder that breaking and entering is not an acceptable behavior.
Experts note that raccoons, known for their inquisitive nature and adeptness at accessing various spaces, are increasingly drawn to urban environments due to the availability of food and diminishing natural habitats, leading to encounters like the one at the liquor store.
