In a tragic incident in northern India, a woman passed away after a phony medical practitioner attempted kidney stone surgery by following a tutorial on YouTube, as confirmed by the police.
The dreadful event took place on December 5 in the Barabanki district of Uttar Pradesh. The unlicensed individual, allegedly under the influence, conducted the surgery that resulted in fatal injuries, ultimately leading to the woman’s demise.
The victim, Munishra Rawat, was taken to an unauthorized clinic after suffering from severe abdominal pain. Her husband, Fateh Bahadur, brought her to the Shri Damodar Aushadhalaya clinic run by Gyan Prakash Mishra and Vivek Mishra. Prakash diagnosed her with kidney stones and offered surgery for a reduced fee of 20,000 rupees, down from the initial quote of 25,000.
Bahadur recounted that after reviewing the ultrasound report, the accused falsely claimed an escalation in gall bladder stones, necessitating urgent surgery. Despite calling for additional assistance from other doctors, none arrived. Consequently, he proceeded with the surgery, citing self-taught knowledge acquired from social media sources.
During the procedure, Prakash reportedly relied on a YouTube tutorial video while inebriated. He made severe incisions in Rawat’s abdomen, causing harm to her intestines, stomach, and esophagus. Tragically, the kidney stones remained untreated, leading to Rawat’s excruciating death the following day.
Following the woman’s demise, the clinic owners absconded. Rawat, survived by her husband and three young children, became the subject of a police investigation.
Upon receiving a complaint from the husband, authorities inspected the clinic, conducted a post-mortem examination, and filed charges against both owners under relevant laws. The clinic has since been shut down, and efforts are underway to apprehend the defendants who are currently evading arrest.
Senior police official Amit Singh Bhaduria assured that the fugitives will soon be apprehended, as investigations continue. The closure of the unauthorized clinic was enforced after authorities discovered its shutdown status, with the accused expected to face imminent arrest.
