“15-Year-Old Darts Prodigy Makes History at Lakeside”

A 15-year-old darts prodigy, Mitchell Lawrie, has left Luke Littler amazed with his performance at the WDF World Championship held at Lakeside. Lawrie, born in 2010, made history by becoming the youngest player to secure a victory at Lakeside, defeating Tomoya Maruyama and Jason Brandon in impressive fashion.

Lawrie’s exceptional display included hitting five maximums and delivering impressive checkouts, culminating in an outstanding 97.21 average – the highest recorded at the tournament so far. Littler expressed his astonishment towards Lawrie on the WDF Darts Instagram account, labeling him as “a joke.”

Following his victory over Brandon, Lawrie expressed his elation, stating, “I’m absolutely buzzing with myself, to be honest.” Despite facing a strong opponent in Brandon, Lawrie showcased his skills from the outset with a fast start, maintaining a high level of play throughout the match.

Lawrie’s remarkable performance saw him finish every leg in the first set in under 15 darts, with a near miss on a possible nine-darter before executing a superb 134 checkout. Reflecting on his game, Lawrie acknowledged the crowd’s support, stating, “The crowd were with me from the start. As soon as I hit the 180, they were all on my side.”

Although Lawrie faced a brief challenge from Brandon in the final set, he regained his composure and sealed the victory. Lawrie admitted, “I kind of fell asleep a little bit in the last set, but then he started hitting scores, and I woke up again, thankfully.”

When questioned about any nerves during his final match darts, Lawrie explained, “Again, no – I just missed. I don’t know how to explain it. It was double two, I missed it.” Despite distractions from the crowd, Lawrie praised the overall support he received.

Looking ahead, the PDC World Darts Championship is set to commence on December 11, offering fans the opportunity to watch every match live exclusively with Sky’s Essential TV and Sky Sports bundle. For convenient access to valuable news, select Daily Mirror as a ‘Preferred Source’ on Google News.
