“Christian Horner to Receive £80M Settlement from Red Bull”

Christian Horner is set to receive over £80 million as a settlement from Red Bull following his sudden removal from the Formula 1 team after a 20-year tenure. Laurent Mekies took over as team principal and chief executive post the British Grand Prix, but the transition awaited a mutual agreement due to Horner’s existing long-term contract.

Recent reports confirmed Horner’s official termination as a director of all related UK-registered companies associated with the team, signaling the conclusion of the negotiation. The settlement, which includes a compensation package exceeding £80 million, signifies the end of his contract, originally scheduled until 2030.

In line with F1 protocols, Horner will undergo a gardening leave period before potentially joining a new team, although immediate prospects seem limited. Flavio Briatore has dismissed any likelihood of Horner joining Alpine in the near future, and there is no apparent interest from other teams like Cadillac.

Having joined Red Bull at just 31 years old in 2005, Horner led the team to significant success with eight drivers’ titles and six constructors’ championships. However, shifts in relationships within the organization post the passing of Red Bull’s co-owner led to Horner’s departure, despite previous support from the majority owner.

Mekies, formerly from Racing Bulls, has swiftly made an impact in his new role, overseeing consecutive victories for Verstappen in recent races. Red Bull’s future as a works outfit, developing engines in partnership with Ford, will now progress without Horner’s supervision. Verstappen’s manager has hinted at exploring other options if the team fails to deliver a competitive car by 2026.
