Sky, Freeview, and Virgin Media viewers will soon have fewer options in their TV guides as two popular children’s channels, Pop and Tiny Pop, are set to be removed starting December 2025. These channels, known for featuring well-liked shows like Pokémon, LEGO Friends, and Hello Kitty, are currently freely accessible throughout the day and night for younger audiences.
The decision to pull the plug on these channels is due to their declining commercial viability in the UK kids’ TV market. Paul Dunthorne, MD of Narrative, the company behind these channels, mentioned that the closure is a result of the challenging commercial landscape, with kids’ TV market value decreasing significantly over the past decade.
While the traditional channels will be discontinued, the content will still be accessible through online platforms known as FAST channels, requiring internet-connected devices for viewing. Paul Dunthorne also assured that the content will remain available on various platforms, ensuring commercial opportunities both in the UK and internationally.
In addition to the channel shutdown, the Pop Player app and website will also cease operations. However, amidst this change, Sky has announced the introduction of Disney Jr. to its Sky Kids package, offering a wide range of entertaining shows aimed at children aged 2-6. This addition, scheduled to go live on November 13, will include popular titles like Mickey Mouse Clubhouse+, Marvel’s Spidey and his Amazing Friends, and Bluey, among others.
Disney Jr. will be accessible through the Sky Kids pack, allowing viewers to enjoy the content via TV guide or on-demand on various Sky devices and the Sky Go app. Moreover, Disney Jr. content will continue to be available for streaming on Disney+.
