Four individuals facing charges in a London investigation involving the manufacturing of explosives and firearms have now been hit with 19 additional charges, as revealed in court documents filed on Tuesday. Jerry Tong, Zekun (Alex) Wang, Fei (Frank) Han, and Feiyang (Astrid) Ji, who were initially charged in January, are all linked to Western University as either students or recent graduates, with the three male suspects having backgrounds in the engineering field.
The updated list of charges presented to the Ontario Court of Justice brings the total charges to 31, encompassing various counts that are either jointly against all four or specific to individual accused persons. Among the fresh charges are possession of five distinct explosive substances, possession of stolen property, and unauthorized access to computer data related to firearm production.
The extensive probe, which commenced on Jan. 24 following an incident where two individuals intruded into an engineering building at Western University, ultimately resulted in the arrest of the accused. Subsequent investigations led authorities to a residence in the University Heights area where the remaining suspects were apprehended. A thorough search was conducted at the residence on Chesham Place where Wang, Han, and Ji resided, as well as at two other residences in Orléans, Ottawa, and Gatineau, Quebec.
Initially, the four individuals were arrested on multiple firearms charges, including the creation of a handgun and the possession of a loaded restricted firearm. Tong, Wang, and Ji now face additional charges such as possession of firearm accessories, a prohibited firearm, and mishandling and careless storage of a rifle. Tong, in particular, faces charges relating to incidents in other cities, including storing rifles in Orléans, manufacturing a prohibited firearm in Ottawa, and possessing a rifle in an unauthorized location in Quebec.
Moreover, Wang has been charged with weapon manufacturing between September 1, 2025, and January 24, 2026, while both Wang and Tong are accused of breaking into a Western building on October 9, 2025. Court documents also highlight a fresh set of charges against Tong, Wang, Han, and Ji for the possession of various explosive substances like PETN, TNT, DNP, HMTD, and lead azide.
The accused parties are also charged with possessing property belonging to Western University valued at less than $5,000. Additionally, Wang faces a unique charge of accessing computer data related to firearms, specifically design files usable with 3D printers or metal milling machines for manufacturing purposes.
As the legal proceedings continue, Tong faces 28 charges, Wang 20, Han 11, and Ji 13. While two of the accused individuals are currently out on bail, the other two remain in custody. Tong did not seek bail and remains detained, while Han was denied bail and remanded in custody. Wang was granted bail under stringent conditions in March, and Ji is also out on bail without any sureties.
