Search and rescue authorities have located an aircraft in the Kawartha Lakes area where a pilot is suspected to have disappeared after flying in the region last week. According to the Trenton Joint Rescue Coordination Centre (JRCC), which oversees air and marine search and rescue missions in Ontario, the plane was discovered at Wolf Lake in Queen Elizabeth II Provincial Park, situated approximately a 45-minute drive north of the Kawartha Lakes municipality.
The matter has now been handed over to the Ontario Provincial Police (OPP) as a missing person’s case, as stated by JRCC in their social media post. However, there was no direct confirmation if the aircraft belonged to the missing 73-year-old pilot identified as David by the authorities.
David, as per Durham police, departed from Oshawa Airport in the plane at 8:30 a.m. on Friday, with an expected return time of 9:30 a.m. the same day. It was noted by the police that he typically flies in the region south of Kawartha Lakes township and north of Lake Scugog.
Earlier reports from Ontario Provincial Police described the plane as a small homemade aircraft in blue color with the tail marked “FOFZ.” David, an experienced pilot, is described as five feet seven inches tall, slim, with black grey hair and a moustache.
