Toronto Blue Jays’ powerhouse, Vladimir Guerrero Jr., has been cleared to play after coming off the seven-day injured list. He is set to be in action this Saturday against the New York Yankees. Guerrero had to exit a game against the Yankees last week in Toronto due to a collision with George Lombard Jr., a rookie shortstop from New York, during a play at third base in the sixth inning.
The incident occurred when Guerrero slid into third base and collided with Lombard’s knee and thigh, resulting in his helmet being dislodged. Despite the injury, Guerrero managed to score the tying run before leaving the game. After passing his final concussion tests, Guerrero rejoined the team on Friday. He even took swings in the batting cage after playing in a minor league rehab game for single-A Dunedin on Thursday.
Following the 3-1 loss to the Yankees in the series opener on Friday, Guerrero was placed second in the batting lineup for Saturday’s game. In a corresponding move, the Blue Jays sent infielder/outfielder Davis Schneider down to triple-A Buffalo.
Guerrero boasts a batting average of .263 with seven home runs and 46 RBIs this season. Prior to the collision, he was on a hot streak, hitting .310 (7 for 29) in his last seven games.
