The Toronto Blue Jays placed Vladimir Guerrero Jr., a six-time All-Star, on the seven-day injured list (IL) on Saturday due to concussion symptoms. In his place, outfielder Daz Cameron was called up from Triple-A Buffalo. To accommodate the roster change, Lazaro Estrada, a right-hander, was designated for assignment.
Additionally, on Saturday, the Blue Jays recalled left-hander Ricky Tiedemann from Buffalo and sent right-hander Chase Lee down to Triple-A. Guerrero sustained his injury during Friday’s game against the Yankees, exiting after a collision with New York rookie shortstop George Lombard Jr. at third base in the sixth inning.
During the incident, Lombard attempted to leap over Guerrero as he slid into third base, inadvertently striking Guerrero’s head with his knee and thigh, causing Guerrero’s helmet to come off. Despite the impact, Guerrero managed to score the tying run before being replaced by Charles McAdoo at first base in the seventh inning.
Manager John Schneider reported that Guerrero experienced headaches after the collision and continued to have them the following day. Guerrero currently holds a batting average of .263 with seven home runs and 46 RBIs. Tiedemann’s season record includes 0-1 with a 6.43 ERA in seven games, two of which were starts, across three minor league levels.
