Around 150 corgis gathered for an international event in Lithuania, celebrating the small herding dogs that originated in Wales. The event, known as the fifth Corgi Race Vilnius, took place at Vingis park in the Lithuanian capital. Participants from various countries, including Lithuania, Latvia, Poland, Estonia, Germany, Ukraine, Czech Republic, the United States, and Britain, competed in different categories.
The event featured a costume parade, a competition for the “smartest nose,” and a contest for the loudest bark. Organizer Edvinas Miskas highlighted the significant growth of the event, with participation from nine countries and a special guest from the breed’s homeland.
In the main running event, ninety-four dogs competed over 25 meters. The winner of the final race was an American corgi named GG, with another U.S. entrant, Mr. Corgington, finishing in a close second place. Lithuania’s Moka, a former champion, secured the third position.
Besides the speed race, the event showcased the dogs’ diverse skills and talents. The corgis participated in a costume parade, a “smartest nose” challenge, and a competition for the loudest bark. Notably, Mr. Corgington emerged victorious in the loudest bark contest.
The event attracted both seasoned participants and newcomers, with half of the corgis competing for the first time. Among the regular attendees were six veteran corgis who have been part of every edition of the event, adding to the festive and competitive atmosphere.
The international gathering of corgis in Vilnius featured a mix of fun, competition, and camaraderie, making it a memorable celebration of these beloved herding dogs.
