A suspected case of Ebola at a Montreal hospital turned out to be a false alarm, leading to the lifting of emergency isolation measures. The patient, a woman who exhibited symptoms of the deadly disease upon arrival at the Centre hospitalier de l’Université de Montréal (CHUM) late Thursday afternoon, tested negative for Ebola.
Upon identifying the suspicious symptoms, CHUM spokesperson Irène Marcheterre stated that the hospital promptly implemented necessary isolation protocols to ensure public safety. Following the negative test results, spokesperson Ellen Caracas confirmed the absence of Ebola and announced the removal of emergency protocols.
The incident occurred against the backdrop of a severe Ebola outbreak in the Democratic Republic of Congo, causing numerous fatalities in recent months. While Marcheterre could not verify if the patient had recently visited the affected region, she mentioned a lack of knowledge regarding the woman’s travel history.
