“Princess Kate Celebrates 20 Years of Love and Hope”

The Princess of Wales has shared a message emphasizing the significance of “love, healing, and hope” to commemorate a meaningful milestone. Kate Middleton, as the patron of Evelina London Children’s Hospital, has issued a special message in honor of the hospital’s 20th anniversary.

In 2005, the hospital was inaugurated and has since been providing specialized care to infants, children, adolescents, and their families in London, southeast England, and beyond. Princess Kate took on the role of patron for the hospital in 2018 and has made multiple visits to interact with young patients, parents, and staff.

On the occasion of the anniversary, she expressed, “As Patron of Evelina, I’m thrilled to be part of the celebration of the 20th anniversary of the iconic hospital building at Evelina London Children’s Hospital.”

“In the past twenty years, this remarkable space has allowed Evelina London to care for almost three times the number of children and young people compared to its initial opening. It serves as a symbol of love, healing, and hope, profoundly impacting numerous lives.”

“As witnessed during my visits, the building’s vibrant and welcoming areas, along with the light-filled atrium, provide a sense of safety, support, and nurturing for children as they confront their challenges.”

“The exceptional staff members are what make this building truly special, as their compassion and expertise radiate throughout the hospital, creating an environment where families feel supported and uplifted.”

“Looking ahead, I am hopeful for Evelina’s future. With its continuous expansion, more children will benefit from the exceptional care that defines Evelina, a place where healing begins through connection, and every child is treasured.”

Kate’s most recent visit to the hospital occurred in December 2023, where she inaugurated the new day surgery unit. During her visit, she met Saya Stephenson, a four-and-a-half-year-old recovering from a minor ear operation.

The hospital has witnessed several significant firsts since its inception, including conducting the first 3D scans of a fetal heart and performing the UK’s initial pediatric robotic surgery for testicular cancer.

Gubby Ayida, the Chief Executive of Evelina London Women’s and Children’s Clinical Group, remarked, “Evelina London Children’s Hospital stands as a beacon of hope, compassion, and excellence for numerous infants, children, young people, and their families.”

“Over the past two decades, we’ve seen remarkable advancements in pediatric medicine, but our steadfast commitment to prioritizing children and families has remained constant. This milestone is a tribute to our staff, patients, and the supportive community.”
