Elderly Man Dies After ATM Mugging in North London

A senior citizen passed away 20 days after being mugged while withdrawing money from an ATM in north London. Jalal Khan, aged 76, sustained a head injury during the ambush on October 30 and was promptly taken to the hospital in critical condition. Unfortunately, he succumbed to his injuries on November 19. Known for his gentle and kind-hearted demeanor, Jalal resided near the post office on High Street in Ponders End, where the incident occurred.

According to a police report, officers responded to a robbery and assault call on High Street in Ponders End on October 30. Jalal Khan was found with head injuries and was rushed to the hospital in a critical state. Tragically, he passed away on November 19, with his family receiving support from specialized officers during this challenging time.

An eyewitness, a post office worker, mentioned that Jalal was targeted while using the ATM outside. Describing Jalal as a familiar face in the neighborhood, the worker expressed shock at the incident, emphasizing Jalal’s peaceful nature and lack of conflicts with anyone.

Rasel Alam, the owner of Enfield Food Hall, paid tribute to Jalal, highlighting his kindness and peaceful demeanor. Alam described Jalal as a well-respected community member who will be deeply missed for his constant smile and friendly nature.

Neighbors also shared their sentiments, describing Jalal as a kind and ideal neighbor, expressing sorrow over the tragic event that occurred so close to his residence.

Following the incident, the police gathered surveillance footage from the area. Jaesis Boatswain, a 40-year-old resident of Swan Walk in Enfield, has been charged with multiple offenses, including assault, robbery, and wielding a knife. Boatswain appeared in court on November 6 and is currently in custody awaiting his next hearing at Wood Green Crown Court on December 10.
