Christian Horner is being considered as a potential replacement for Andy Cowell as the team principal of Aston Martin, following rumors of Cowell’s impending dismissal after the Las Vegas Grand Prix. Horner, who previously led the Red Bull team before departing in July, has been actively seeking a return to Formula 1.
After a challenging race in Las Vegas, RacingNews365 reported that Cowell’s position at Aston Martin was in jeopardy due to the team’s struggles in the Constructors’ Championship standings. Currently placed seventh, Aston Martin is only eight points ahead of ninth-placed Sauber. The report suggested that Andreas Seidl, a former McLaren and Sauber figure, was a top candidate to take over the role.
BBC Sport also mentioned Horner as a possible successor to Cowell at Aston Martin. Horner, a well-known figure in Formula 1, has been linked to various teams since his departure, including Ferrari, Haas, and Alpine. If Horner were to join Aston Martin, it could mark a significant opportunity for him since stepping down from Red Bull.
Speculation about Horner moving to Aston Martin emerged before the Singapore Grand Prix, but Cowell swiftly dismissed these rumors, stating that there were no plans for Horner to be involved with the team in any capacity.
If Horner were to return to the grid with Aston Martin, it would lead to a reunion with his rival Zak Brown, the CEO of McLaren Racing, who has previously commented on Horner’s career evolution. Meanwhile, Horner’s former team, Red Bull, celebrated success in Las Vegas as Max Verstappen secured a crucial victory in the Drivers’ Championship race. However, both McLaren cars were later disqualified post-race, affecting the championship standings as Verstappen closed in on Norris at the top of the leaderboard.
