A member of Parliament from Reform UK is under scrutiny for allegedly making false claims about securing funding for a local boxing club in her constituency. Sarah Pochin asserted in a now-deleted social media video that she had helped secure funding for Runcorn Amateur Boxing Club (ABC) to assist the youth in the area. However, the boxing club denied receiving any funding from the Reform party and emphasized its apolitical stance as a charity organization.
The club demanded an apology from the MP and clarified that they had not granted permission for her to film on their premises. In a statement on social media, the club debunked the MP’s claims of securing funding, stating that they operate independently as a charity and had not received any financial assistance from Reform.
Following the club’s rebuttal, Pochin acknowledged the confusion surrounding the funding issue, mentioning that the funding she helped secure was actually for Diverse Sports Runcorn (DSR), a separate organization operating within the boxing club’s premises. She later deleted the post after ABC reiterated their stance of not aligning with political parties and clarified that the existing resources had been allocated for another year, rather than new funding being sourced.
The incident has sparked controversy and raised concerns about the potential impact of false claims on the club’s future funding opportunities. The conflicting statements have highlighted the importance of accurate representation and transparency, especially for charitable organizations operating in a politically sensitive climate.
