“Mother Advocates for Firework Safety Training”

A mother is advocating for mandatory training for individuals handling fireworks after her 11-year-old son sustained serious burns while protecting his sister from a firework accident. The incident occurred during a fireworks display near Pontypool, Wales, where Olly shielded his 2-year-old sister, Daisy. The concerned mother, Charlotte Baggot, emphasized the need for businesses selling fireworks to provide comprehensive safety instructions to customers to prevent such accidents.

Charlotte, a mother of three, expressed her concerns about the lack of proper safety measures at the event, stating that the fireworks were set off too close to the crowd without proper security. She stressed the importance of ensuring that individuals organizing public displays receive adequate training to avoid similar incidents in the future.

Although Olly is recovering well from his injuries, Charlotte mentioned that he is still traumatized by the experience and will avoid attending firework displays in the future. Reflecting on the incident, she described how Olly bravely protected his siblings when a firework flew towards them, resulting in him getting burned on his neck, fingers, and head. Despite the terrifying ordeal, Charlotte praised Olly for his heroic actions and quick thinking.

Olly, a member of the bagpipe band Piping Hot Cwmbran, was scheduled to participate in his hometown’s Remembrance Sunday parade but instead laid a wreath on behalf of his band. The band spokesperson commended Olly for his bravery and selflessness, highlighting his remarkable courage in the face of danger.
