“Millions to Receive Benefit Payments Early for the Holidays”

Millions of individuals are set to receive their benefit payments earlier this week courtesy of the Department for Work and Pensions (DWP).

Various benefits such as Universal Credit, Personal Independence Payment, and the state pension may be affected, contingent on the regular payment schedule. If your payment is due on Thursday, Christmas Day, or Boxing Day, anticipate receiving it sooner than expected tomorrow, on Christmas Eve, as DWP payments are not processed during bank holidays.

In the event of an early payment, it’s wise to budget effectively until the next payment date. Those expecting benefits on Thursday, January 1 can expect payment on Wednesday, December 31 instead.

Should you encounter delays in receiving your benefit payments, reach out to the relevant office online, via phone, or visit your local JobCentre upon reopening. Note that helplines will be closed on bank holidays, so inquiries may need to wait until the next working day.

Most benefits are administered by the DWP, while Tax Credits and Child Benefit are managed by HMRC. Child Benefit payments typically occur on Mondays and Tuesdays, hence remaining unaffected by Christmas bank holidays.
