“Alert: Amazon Customers Targeted by Deceptive Recall Scam”

Consumers who made purchases on Amazon during March are being alerted to a deceptive new scam falsely notifying them of a “product recall” being issued. The concerning text message, targeting UK mobile phones, initiates with a warning labeled “Amazon Product Recall Notice.”

The message then proceeds to promise users a full reimbursement and prompts them to click on a provided link to log in to their Amazon account. To intensify the urgency, it advises individuals to immediately stop using the product in question.

The message, as revealed by Mirror Online, states, “Dear Customer, we wish to inform you about a product recall pertaining to an item from your March 2026 order due to a design flaw that could pose a safety hazard.

“We regret any inconvenience this may cause and value your swift attention to this crucial safety issue. Thank you for your continued trust in Amazon.”

While this may sound alarming, no such recall exists. The communication is actually a phishing scheme aimed at duping concerned customers into divulging their login credentials, a perilous act with potential repercussions.

Clicking on the link redirects individuals to a counterfeit Amazon sign-in page designed to appear authentic. By inputting their credentials, scammers can pilfer this information to make unauthorized transactions, block victims from their accounts, or access personal data.

Although this scam is a recent occurrence, having just started appearing on phones, it is not the first time Amazon customers have been targeted. In February, the consumer group Which? issued a similar alert following the circulation of messages by cybercriminals claiming an item had been recalled “for safety reasons,” linking to a fraudulent Amazon page.

Responding to Which?, Amazon conveyed, “There are various scams that request individuals to make payments via email, phone, or text for items or services.

“Exercise caution whenever someone pressures you to act immediately—scammers often create a sense of urgency to coerce individuals, employing persuasive techniques to attract consumers.

“We encourage consumers to report suspected scams to safeguard their accounts and alert authorities about malicious actors.”

Amazon also recommends customers to be wary of:

• Unfamiliar phone numbers or texts from numbers with unusual or foreign country codes

• Messages regarding orders or deliveries that
