The labor union representing WestJet flight attendants has disclosed specifics of the provisional agreement reached with the airline based in Calgary following a brief strike. The Canadian Union of Public Employees (CUPE) has announced that the agreement entails an increase in wages of more than 18% spread over three years, along with a newly introduced “duty period premium” providing additional compensation for ground duties. Additionally, the deal encompasses extended time off, augmented food and uniform allowances, and other benefits.
Amidst a prolonged holiday weekend for many, all WestJet flights in a significant part of Canada were suspended as the deadline approached for a strike by 4,400 flight attendants who commenced the strike early on Sunday. However, a tentative agreement was reached between the airline and the union early on Monday, leading to a gradual normalization of WestJet operations.
The cabin crew members are scheduled to vote on the agreement in the upcoming weeks.
