Boxing Legend Ricky Hatton Dies at 46

British boxing legend Ricky Hatton has passed away at the age of 46 in his home. Hatton, a beloved figure in British sports, achieved global recognition when he defeated Kosta Tszyu in 2005. He also participated in notable matches against Floyd Mayweather and Manny Pacquiao.

After a devastating defeat by Pacquiao, Hatton retired but made a comeback in 2022, losing to Vyachslav Senchenko. Despite this, he planned to return to the ring for a match against Eisa Al Dah in Dubai. The Greater Manchester Police confirmed the discovery of a body at Hatton’s residence, ruling out any suspicion of foul play.

Growing up in Manchester, Hatton started boxing to defend himself from bullies after a brief stint in football trials. He secured the WBU light-welterweight title in 2001 and later became a unified champion and a two-weight world champion. Known for his perfect 43-0 record, Hatton faced Mayweather in 2007 but was defeated in the 10th round.

Aside from his boxing career, Hatton struggled with mental health issues, addiction, and strained relationships, including a turbulent connection with his parents. Despite these challenges, he found solace in coaching before his unsuccessful return to the sport.

Tributes poured in from the boxing community following Hatton’s passing, with Amir Khan expressing gratitude for Hatton’s impact and urging those in need to seek support. Chris Eubank Sr and Turki Al-Sheikh also paid their respects to the late boxing icon.
