A 69-year-old grandmother, Maria Rubalcava de Ruesga, who had overcome pancreatic cancer, tragically lost her life in a horrific accident in Santa Ana, California. The incident occurred on West Bishop Street early Wednesday morning as she was crossing the street and was struck by a bin lorry. The nearby Pio Pico Elementary School community, including children and families, witnessed the devastating event, prompting the Santa Ana Unified School District to provide support through a crisis team.
Law enforcement responded to multiple calls about the collision and arrived at the scene with the Orange County Fire Authority. It was determined that the bin lorry had hit Ms. de Ruesga on a roundabout while she was in the process of crossing the road.
The driver of the bin lorry cooperated with authorities and remained at the scene where Ms. de Ruesga was pronounced dead. She had successfully battled pancreatic cancer and had been in remission for a year before the tragic accident. A GoFundMe campaign was launched to assist with funeral expenses, as reported by the Express US.
The campaign description highlighted Ms. de Ruesga’s resilience in overcoming cancer and the shock felt by her loved ones at her sudden passing. The fundraiser had raised over $7,100 by Sunday evening, with the aim of giving her a dignified farewell. The campaign expressed gratitude for any form of support during this difficult time.
