Hobbycraft initiates clearance sales ahead of shutting down six stores this month. The arts and crafts retailer is in the midst of a significant business restructure, having already closed 12 stores previously. This month, Hobbycraft has closed its Wigan branch on September 4.
Following this, the Maidenhead and Chichester stores will permanently close on September 18, with the Crayford branch following on September 20, King’s Lynn on September 22, and the Stafford store on September 28. These stores have launched clearance sales offering discounts of up to 70% on select products to clear out remaining stock.
Hobbycraft, owned by Modella Capital, stated that these closures are essential to safeguard the future of 99 stores and 1,800 jobs across the business. The company currently operates 110 stores nationwide. Chief executive Alex Wilson expressed optimism about the future, stating that investing in the online business and innovative customer outreach strategies like Hobbycraft TV will ensure a brighter future for the company.
Meanwhile, Poundland recently had its restructuring plan approved by the High Court after being acquired by investment firm Gordon Brothers. The approval included the closure of 68 branches, with Poundland’s store estate expected to eventually reduce to between 650 and 700 stores. Poundland will also shut down its distribution centers in Darton, South Yorkshire, and Bilston, West Midlands, by early 2026.
