Jockeys skillfully avoided a potential disaster during a recent horse race when they had to swiftly maneuver to steer clear of an approaching ambulance.
Following the concerning incident at Evangeline Downs in the United States on a Saturday night, an investigation has been initiated to determine the circumstances that led to the ambulance encroaching onto the track.
Typically, an ambulance trails a horse race along the inside of the track to provide immediate assistance in case of any mishaps involving the horses or riders. However, in an unusual turn of events, the ambulance found itself inside the course during the eighth race at 8:35 pm at the Louisiana venue, located just east of Opelousas.
All eight participating runners had to take evasive action to avoid the vehicle as they navigated around the initial bend, preventing any severe injuries to the horses and riders.
The incident left fans of the sport worldwide astonished. Renowned commentator Kevin Blake expressed his shock, calling it one of the most frightening near misses he has witnessed in a horse race. Similarly, US racing journalist Ray Paulick commended the jockeys for their remarkable reactions in avoiding a potential collision.
The concerning event did not go unnoticed by spectators, with track commentator’s nonchalant description of the incident as a “little incident on the turn” raising eyebrows. The commentator further acknowledged that the ambulance was not in its designated position.
Authorities at the track have launched an inquiry to determine how the ambulance ended up on the track, ensuring that such a potentially dangerous situation does not occur again.
