A mother expressed deep distress after encountering what she believed to be her son’s body on exhibit at a museum. Kim Erick, aged 54, was at the Real Bodies exhibition in Las Vegas when she came across a body she was convinced belonged to her son, Chris. She described the body as “skinned” and “butchered,” causing her significant trauma.
Despite Kim’s claims, the museum has refuted any connection between the body on display and her son. Authorities informed Kim that they had thoroughly investigated her son’s death and found no evidence of foul play. However, Kim remains steadfast in her belief that there is a sinister aspect to her son’s death and his alleged inclusion in the exhibition.
Recalling the heartbreaking moment she encountered the body, Kim stated, “I knew it was him; it was so unbelievably painful to look at. My words cannot describe how this shook me and my family to its core. I was actually looking at pictures of my son’s skinned, butchered body. It is gut-wrenching.”
The Real Bodies exhibition showcases preserved human remains, providing visitors with a unique perspective on anatomy. Kim is now appealing for DNA testing to confirm if the body is indeed that of her son, Chris.
Kim and her son shared a deep bond. Tragedy struck when Chris was discovered deceased at his grandmother’s residence in November 2012. Although the police determined Chris died peacefully in his sleep, Kim, who received a necklace containing Chris’ ashes, harbored suspicions about the circumstances of his death and urged authorities to reinvestigate.
Expressing her concerns, Kim said, “The photos were very disturbing. There were restraining marks across Chris’s arms, chest, and abdomen.” Despite a murder investigation being launched in 2014, no evidence of homicide was found, leading to the conclusion that Chris likely died by suicide.
Kim remains resolute in her belief that foul play was involved in her son’s death and has been advocating for answers. In 2018, she encountered a body at the exhibition that she is convinced is her son, citing specific details that matched Chris’s injuries.
In response to the allegations, Imagine Exhibitions, Inc., the owner of Real Bodies, issued a statement expressing sympathy to the family but denying any factual basis for the claims. They emphasized that the specimen in question has been on display since 2004 and is not associated with the individual named in the allegations. The company reassured that all specimens are ethically sourced and biologically unidentifiable, maintaining their commitment to upholding ethical and legal standards in their exhibits.
