NATO had to deploy fighter jets for the second time in three nights following Russia’s aggressive attacks on Ukraine, targeting civilians near allied territory. The recent assaults coincided with renewed diplomatic efforts in Geneva to broker a peace deal supported by both the US and Ukraine, despite Russian President Vladimir Putin’s apparent reluctance to end the conflict. Additionally, a senior NATO official warned that Moscow is facilitating the trafficking of illicit drugs and migrants from Africa to sow chaos in Western nations.
In a tragic incident, Russia conducted significant airstrikes on Ukraine overnight, resulting in the death of a mother of two in Kharkiv. The woman, Natalya, was visiting her sister in the Shevchenkivskyi district when she was killed in a drone strike that claimed four lives and injured 17 others. Her son, Oleksandr Balaklytskyi, recounted her final moments, stating that she alerted him about nearby bombings before the connection was abruptly lost.
Among the wounded was 77-year-old Volodymyr Kravtsov, who described the harrowing experience of being caught in the attack, with debris flying towards him as the room caught fire. NATO fighters were dispatched following fresh drone strikes on Izmail, a strategic Ukrainian port near the Romanian border. The Romanian Air Force confirmed the scramble of two Eurofighter Typhoon aircraft to monitor the situation.
Subsequently, additional drones were spotted near Snake Island in the Black Sea, prompting Romanian F-16 fighters to intervene. The Romanian military accused Russia of targeting civilian sites and port facilities in Ukraine, causing devastation in areas like Chernihiv. Russian drone attacks also inflicted casualties in Chernihiv, with two individuals sustaining burn injuries in a residential neighborhood.
