Keir Starmer criticized Reform for allegedly using divisive tactics during a heated exchange at the PMQs. The Prime Minister called on Lee Anderson of Reform UK to have Nigel Farage address controversial reports in the media, following claims by former classmates accusing Farage of making racist and antisemitic remarks in the past.
During the Commons confrontation with Anderson, Starmer sarcastically remarked on Anderson’s comedic skills. He highlighted Reform UK’s focus on their duties while implying that Labour engages in divisive politics. Starmer also referenced Farage’s failure to condemn racist remarks made by a fellow MP and criticized Reform for a lack of action against inappropriate comments within the party.
Last week, Starmer had labeled the Reform chief as “utterly spineless” for not condemning derogatory remarks made by a Reform UK councilor. The PM had also criticized Farage for neglecting to denounce offensive comments and diverting attention to other issues during previous exchanges at PMQs.
The recent disagreement arose after Labour MP Darren Paffey raised concerns about offensive remarks made by Andy Osborn of Reform UK, prompting the PM to call for immediate condemnation. Farage, however, cited time constraints and shifted the conversation toward different topics.
Starmer continued to press Farage for failing to address the misconduct within his party, including comments made by MP Sarah Pochin. Despite previous controversies, Farage defended Pochin’s intentions and distanced himself from her remarks.
During the latest PMQs, Anderson challenged the PM to confirm upcoming council elections, provoking Starmer to show determination. The exchange highlighted ongoing tensions between Labour and Reform UK, emphasizing the need for accountability within political leadership.
