A teenager, Eliza Soward, recently applied her CPR training to save her mother’s life just days after completing a health and safety course in Salt Lake City, Utah. Maggie, Eliza’s mother, experienced a sudden cardiac arrest at their home during Thanksgiving last year. Eliza’s swift response and effective CPR kept Maggie alive until paramedics arrived, who later confirmed a weak pulse after 26 minutes.
Maggie, whose husband is engineer Scott, required a defibrillator implant and spent nine days in the hospital post the incident. She emphasized the critical importance of immediate CPR in such emergencies, crediting Eliza for her life-saving actions. Scott discovered Maggie collapsed in their pantry and immediately sought Eliza’s help, who performed CPR until the ambulance arrived.
Reflecting on the incident, Maggie expressed gratitude for the support she received from her family and neighbors during the crisis. She highlighted the life-changing impact of the incident and stressed the significance of CPR awareness. With Thanksgiving approaching this year, Maggie anticipates celebrating the holiday with renewed appreciation and thankfulness.
