A tragic car accident took the lives of a young couple and their three friends who had recently returned from a trip to Dubai. The victims, identified as school teacher Chloe McGee, farm worker Alan McCluskey, Shay Duffy, Dillon Commins, and Chloe Hipson, all perished in a two-vehicle collision in Dundalk, County Louth. Local Sinn Fein Councillor Michael Gallagher, a resident of Drumconrath, expressed his condolences, mentioning his connection to some of the affected families.
According to Councillor Gallagher, the loss of Chloe and Alan being together added to the sorrow for their respective families. He highlighted Alan’s hardworking nature on his father’s farm and fencing business, as well as Dillon’s role as a mechanic in his father’s carriage business.
The tragic incident claimed the lives of individuals from different areas, including Carrickmacros, Drumconrath, and Lanarkshire, Scotland. The fatal crash occurred when a Volkswagen Golf carrying the victims collided with a Toyota Land Cruiser late on Saturday evening. One additional passenger in their 20s sustained non-life-threatening injuries and is currently receiving medical treatment.
Local authorities are actively investigating the collision, with Garda Forensic Collision Investigators and Divisional Scenes of Crime Unit examining the scene. Traffic diversions are in place as forensic examinations continue. The deceased individuals will undergo postmortems at Our Lady of Lourdes Hospital, Drogheda, and their families have been updated on the ongoing investigation.
Superintendent Charlie Armstrong described the event as shocking and devastating for the families and communities involved. He detailed the circumstances of the collision, which resulted in the loss of five lives from the Volkswagen Golf and injuries to occupants of the second vehicle. The injured parties were also taken to the hospital for medical care.
