In the aftermath of devastating wildfires that swept through the Town of Small Point-Broad Cove-Blackhead-Adam’s Cove last summer, a compassionate couple from the Codroy Valley stepped up to bring hope by generously donating over 450 trees to the community. Harrison Bragg and Judy Warren, who were winding down their nursery business, embarked on a lengthy journey to Conception Bay North to distribute the trees to those in need.
Despite encountering a significant delay due to a Trans-Canada highway accident, which forced them to wait for seven hours, Bragg and Warren persevered and eventually arrived on the north shore. Forced to sleep in their truck as accommodations were unavailable, the couple remained determined to deliver the trees to the community.
The following day, with the help of a Facebook post from the town, a gathering point was arranged, and residents eagerly gathered to collect the trees. Witnessing the joy and gratitude of the community was a heartening experience for Bragg and Warren, who were met with enthusiastic inquiries about planting techniques and tree varieties.
Warren was deeply moved by the stories shared by residents, particularly one woman who had lost her entire garden to the wildfires. Expressing her appreciation for the resilience and unity of the community, Warren mentioned plans to involve students in replanting efforts near the school, describing the entire endeavor as a remarkable experience.
Bragg estimated that the value of the donated trees amounted to nearly $9,000 and expressed his intention to provide thousands of seeds to the community for further tree planting next summer. Their altruistic gesture did not go unnoticed, as Mayor Curtis Delaney of Small Point-Broad Cove-Blackhead-Adam’s Cove expressed profound gratitude for Bragg and Warren’s contribution, emphasizing that their act of kindness transcended the tangible donation.
