In a shocking and tragic turn of events, a mother of two was compelled to give testimony during her own trial for a heinous crime, as her former partner poured gasoline on her and set her on fire.
Judy Malinowski had a happy upbringing before being ensnared in a cycle of opioid addiction. Regrettably, the beloved daughter passed away at the age of 33, succumbing to the severe injuries inflicted on her when she was set ablaze. Formerly a participant in beauty pageants, she was diagnosed with ovarian cancer in her youth.
Despite bravely overcoming the disease, it resurfaced in her early twenties, leading to a hysterectomy. Subsequently, Judy battled opiate addiction, depleting her health insurance coverage and resorting to street-sourced heroin for treatment.
Her family remained a pillar of support throughout her struggles. However, her progress was hindered when she crossed paths with Michael Slager, a man with a criminal history. Initially connecting on social media, Judy fell deeply in love with him. Despite not using substances himself, Slager provided drugs to Judy, reigniting her addiction.
As her dependency worsened, Judy became reliant on Slager for her next fix. The tragic incident occurred on August 2, 2015, when Slager doused Judy with fuel and set her alight during an altercation near a gas station. Emergency responders arrived expecting to find a fatality, but to their surprise, Judy was still alive and was rushed to the hospital.
Slager claimed the act was accidental, but a police investigation revealed it was deliberate. Judy suffered burns covering 90% of her body and fell into a coma. Despite undergoing numerous surgeries to survive, medical professionals doubted she would wake up. In a miraculous turn of events, Judy emerged from her coma months later and recorded a testimony implicating Slager in her murder trial. Tragically, she recounted pleading for mercy from him in the video.
Judy Malinowski tragically succumbed to her injuries in June 2017 at the age of 33, leaving behind two daughters. She made history by providing testimony at her own murder trial through a courageous video. In 2018, Slager was sentenced to life in prison without the possibility of parole.
