“Family of Four Dies in Istanbul Hotel Pesticide Tragedy”

A tragic incident unfolded in Istanbul, Turkey, where a family of four, including two young children, lost their lives due to exposure to a pesticide meant for eradicating bed bugs in their hotel room. The family from Germany had arrived in Istanbul for a holiday on November 9 but fell ill just two days later.

The victims were identified as Cigdem Bocek, 27, Servet, 38, Masal, three, and Kadir Muhammet, six. In a desperate attempt to seek help, the father hailed a taxi and rushed his family to the nearest hospital.

The family became critically ill in their hotel room and were later pronounced dead. Initially, food poisoning was suspected, but investigations led to the arrest of 11 individuals, including hotel staff. It was revealed that aluminium phosphide, a chemical used in bedbug treatment, may have caused the tragedy by seeping into the family’s room through the ventilation system.

CCTV footage showed the family checking into the hotel before falling ill with symptoms of poisoning. Despite efforts, Cigdem and the children succumbed to the poisoning, while Servet passed away after a six-day battle in intensive care.

Authorities evacuated the hotel for further investigation, and samples were collected for testing. The Forensic Medicine Institute is examining samples from food stalls the family visited. The devastated grandfather of the victims vowed to seek justice and hold those responsible accountable.

President Recep Tayyip Erdogan assured that investigations would determine the cause of the tragic deaths. The community mourns the loss of this family and demands justice for the heartbreaking incident.
