Jessica Ennis-Hill, an Olympic champion residing in Sheffield, has pledged her support to Kevin Sinfield in his charitable endeavor to raise funds for Motor Neurone Disease (MND). Ennis-Hill will be running alongside Sinfield in the fourth segment of his ‘7 in 7 Together’ challenge happening this Thursday.
Sinfield, commencing his ultra marathon challenge on Monday, aims to complete a marathon every day for a week. This marks Sinfield’s sixth consecutive annual initiative in aid of MND charities, having already generated over £10 million. The funds have notably contributed to establishing a pioneering center in Leeds, the first of its kind in the United Kingdom.
The motivation behind Sinfield’s philanthropic efforts stems from the diagnosis of his former teammate and close friend, Rob Burrow, with MND. Ennis-Hill’s decision to partake in Sinfield’s campaign adds significant visibility and support to the cause, enhancing the awareness of MND.
Renowned for her Olympic heptathlon gold in 2012 and three-time world championship titles, Ennis-Hill transitioned into a successful media career after retiring from athletics in 2016. She currently serves as a patron for various charities, including the Sheffield Children’s Hospital and Barrie Wells’ sports foundation.
Sinfield remains steadfast in his mission to combat MND, emphasizing the ongoing necessity for awareness and fundraising. The recent revelation of England World Cup winner Lewis Moody’s MND diagnosis further underscores the urgency of continued advocacy.
Following the Sheffield leg of his challenge, Sinfield’s journey will progress to Cumbria, Scotland, before concluding in Leeds on Sunday. For more information on the initiative, visit https://www.therhinos.co.uk/the-club/sinfield-together-2025.
