Keir Starmer expressed deep shock witnessing the rescue of a teenage girl in Ukraine while celebrating his daughter’s birthday. The girl, whose mother died in a Kyiv attack, reminded him of his own 15-year-old daughter. Starmer condemned Vladimir Putin’s ongoing aggression as “abhorrent” during a parliamentary update.
He highlighted discussions with the ‘coalition of the willing,’ comprising 36 countries cooperating for peace in Ukraine. Starmer mentioned engaging with Donald Trump and Volodymyr Zelensky recently, praising the US efforts in ending the conflict and outlining crucial security steps in a peace plan.
While acknowledging progress, Starmer emphasized the long road ahead in achieving lasting peace. He stressed Ukraine’s central role in peace negotiations and the necessity of addressing Russian energy exports, especially amid winter and continued attacks on civilians.
Starmer detailed Russia’s recent strikes on Ukraine, including over 1200 drones and 60+ missiles, resulting in tragic casualties like seven-year-old Amelia. He reiterated the UK’s commitment to the cause despite the challenges ahead.
