Brighton & Hove Albion has secured the services of Promise David for the upcoming Premier League season. The Canadian striker has been signed on a season-long loan from Union Saint-Gilloise in Belgium, with a reported obligation to purchase him for $29.7 million US contingent upon meeting specific criteria.
Union Saint-Gilloise confirmed that David will be making the move to the Premier League starting from the following season, setting a new transfer record for the Belgian club. David, who spent the last two seasons at Union, contributed 41 goals in 82 matches and played a pivotal role in the club’s first league title victory in 90 years in 2025. He extended his contract with the club until June 2029.
The 25-year-old striker, who hails from Brampton, Ontario, represented Canada at the recent World Cup, scoring a goal despite limited playing time due to a hip injury. With four goals in 14 appearances for the national team, David switched allegiances from Nigeria to Canada in February 2025 following approval from FIFA after discussions with Canada’s coach Jesse Marsch.
Brighton marks the latest chapter in David’s diverse career, having previously played in Croatia, Malta, and Estonia before his move to Belgium in July 2024. Brighton’s sporting director, Mike Cave, expressed excitement about David’s arrival, highlighting his goal-scoring ability, physical prowess, and international experience as valuable assets for the team’s upcoming season.
