Canada’s Melissa Humana-Paredes and Brandie Wilkerson advanced to the quarterfinals of the Montreal Elite beach volleyball pro tour event on Friday. They secured a 21-13, 21-18 victory against Brazil’s Thamela Coradello and Victoria Lopes, maintaining a perfect 3-0 record in Pool A.
Wilkerson highlighted their strategic pre-game plans, communication, and adaptability as key factors in their success. She emphasized the importance of trust in their defense and side-out play, stating that their primary objective for the weekend is to persevere through challenges.
Meanwhile, Lea Monkhouse from Mississauga, Ont., and Marie-Alex Belanger from Saint-Alphonse-Rodriguez, Que., faced setbacks with two losses, putting them at a 0-3 standing in the tournament.
On the men’s side, Sam Schachter of Richmond Hill, Ont., and Jonny Pickett of Wiarton, Ont., suffered a 21-13, 23-21 defeat against Brazil’s Andre Loyola Stein and Renato Lima. Despite the loss, the Canadian duo progressed to the playoffs with a 1-2 record.
Additionally, Steve Abrams of Georgetown, Ont., and Cameron Chadwick of Barrie, Ont., struggled with a 0-3 record after a close 21-23, 21-18, 15-12 loss to Americans Taylor Crabb and Andy Benesh.
The competition will continue until Sunday at Parc Jean-Drapeau, offering more thrilling matches for fans to enjoy.
