“Gordie Howe Bridge Draws Thousands of Cross-Border Drivers”

Statistics Canada has reported that a significant number of drivers crossed the Gordie Howe International Bridge into Canada in the initial days following its grand opening. The highly anticipated bridge linking Windsor and Detroit commenced operations on July 27, following a series of delays. According to preliminary data from StatCan, there were 18,900 return trips by Canadian residents from the United States via the Gordie Howe bridge during its first five days of service. Simultaneously, 18,100 U.S. residents made their way across the bridge to enter Canada. In comparison, other border crossings in the area, namely the Ambassador Bridge and the Windsor-Detroit Tunnel, observed a total of 52,700 inbound trips by both Canadian and U.S. residents during the same timeframe. Noteworthy is that 4,100 commercial transport trucks headed to Canada using the Gordie Howe bridge in the final five days of July.
