“Judge Approves Release of Epstein Grand Jury Transcripts”

A judge has ruled that previously undisclosed grand jury transcripts in the Jeffrey Epstein sex trafficking case can now be released to the public. US District Judge Richard M. Berman, along with two other judges, approved the Department of Justice’s (DoJ) request to unseal documents from the 2019 federal investigation into the deceased sex offender. This decision overturns the judge’s prior ruling to keep the materials confidential, citing the newly enacted Epstein Files Transparency Act, which mandates the release of all Epstein-related files by December 19. Judge Berman emphasized the importance of safeguarding the identities and privacy of Epstein victims.

Initially, the judge had described the approximately 70 pages of grand jury materials as largely uninformative. However, pressure from Epstein and Ghislaine Maxwell’s victims led to the push for the release of these files while ensuring the protection of their identities and privacy.

In a separate development, court documents disclosed in January 2024 mentioned notable figures such as former Prince Andrew, former US President Bill Clinton, and current US President Donald Trump, although much of the information was already public knowledge. Epstein passed away in a New York prison cell in August 2019 while awaiting trial on sex trafficking allegations.

Judge Berman’s ruling coincides with another judge’s decision to authorize the DoJ to disclose grand jury materials from Maxwell’s sex trafficking case. Maxwell, convicted in 2021 for her involvement in enabling Epstein’s misconduct, is currently serving a 20-year prison sentence.

Earlier in December, Democratic members of the House Oversight Committee released images of Epstein’s private island in the US Virgin Islands, describing them as offering a disturbing glimpse into Epstein’s secretive world.
