A new option has emerged for households looking to access TV channels without a monthly subscription fee. Introduced in 2024, Freely initially provided live channel access through specific new TVs. However, in the last 18 months, more TV brands like Hisense, Toshiba, and Sharp have incorporated Freely. Previously, viewers had to purchase a new TV to enjoy live and on-demand content through the platform.
A breakthrough has occurred with Manhattan’s technology team unveiling a new Freely-driven set-top box, the Aero 4K. This device grants instant access to over 60 live channels and on-demand content for free, eliminating the need for costly subscriptions.
The Aero 4K offers features like voice search, personalized recommendations, a comprehensive TV guide, and the ability to pause live shows. Users with subscriptions to streaming services like Disney+ and Netflix can also access these apps through the box.
Priced at £69.99, the Aero 4K has gained popularity. Currys is the first UK retailer to offer the Manhattan Aero 4K, which quickly sold out. However, it will be restocked soon, with interested buyers able to sign up for alerts on the Currys website. Other retailers like Amazon and John Lewis are expected to carry the device shortly.
Once back in stock, the Aero 4K will compete with devices such as Virgin’s Stream box and Sky Stream, all of which deliver shows, sports, and movies over the internet without the need for an aerial or dish.
Transitioning to streaming offers advantages such as easier installation without requiring a technician and receiving regular software updates over the air. Freely has reported over a million users, indicating a growing trend of moving away from traditional TV viewing methods towards streaming services.
