Port Authority officers are investigating the incident, described as a possible road rage situation that occurred early Tuesday near terminal 8. Gunfire was reported around 4:48 am, resulting in damage to a vehicle but no injuries. An attending police officer discharged their weapon, and the off-duty customs officer was questioned regarding the shooting.
Images captured emergency vehicles at the scene near the Van Wyck Expressway, with traffic cones set up, and police officers managing the area. The incident led to congestion in the southbound lane, prompting its closure and diverting traffic to local roads. Eventually, one lane reopened around 7 am.
Travelers were advised to use the Air Train to JFK and check their flight statuses. The New York City Police Department has been approached for comments.
