“Survivor recounts deadly blizzard tragedy in Patagonia”

A survivor of the storm that claimed the life of Victoria Bond has shared harrowing details of their ordeal amidst the treacherous blizzard. Victoria Bond, a 40-year-old PR professional who had worked with celebrities like Cheryl Tweedy and Annabelle Wallis, was on a trek in Patagonia, Chile when tragedy struck.

Traversing the Torres del Paine nature reserve, the group found themselves engulfed in a powerful 120mph snowstorm, akin to a Category 3 hurricane. Struggling against the fierce winds and heavy rain, nine tourists initially went missing. Regrettably, five members, including two Mexicans, two Germans, and Victoria, did not survive.

Chris Aldridge, a companion of Victoria during the calamity, has recounted the final moments and the terrifying experience of sliding down the mountain uncontrollably. He revealed that the group underestimated the severity of the conditions, leading to treacherous circumstances during their descent.

Upon returning to camp, it was evident that some members had sustained severe injuries, with many on the brink of hypothermia and suffering from frostbite. Realizing not everyone had made it back, the group, without the assistance of absent park rangers, embarked on a rescue mission. Tragically, it was too late for Victoria.

In response to the incident, CONAF, the authority overseeing Chile’s national parks, expressed deep remorse and pledged to enhance safety and communication protocols within the park.

Victoria’s former workplace, Visit Isles of Scilly, mourned her untimely death, highlighting her vibrant personality and passion for life. They described her as charismatic, charming, and dearly loved by all who knew her.
