A 28-year-old teacher named Teresa Whalin is facing allegations of engaging in a sexual relationship with a 14-year-old student and subsequently stalking him post their breakup. The accusations include the teacher exchanging explicit photos with the pupil and creating fake phone numbers to contact him.
According to reports, the student encountered mental health struggles following the purported relationship that commenced in April 2023. The student referred to the connection as “dating,” involving interactions on Snapchat, dining out together, and spending time in the teacher’s classroom.
After the student severed ties with the teacher, she allegedly began stalking him, citing difficulties coping with the breakup. Whalin purportedly drove to the student’s residence and appeared along his school route in Denver, Colorado.
Upon the student disclosing the alleged incidents to a school counselor, the authorities were alerted, leading to Whalin’s arrest on the same day. During police questioning, Whalin reportedly confessed to the sexual relationship, sharing nude images, and using fake numbers to reach the student anonymously, hoping he would seek her assistance.
Whalin is now facing charges of sexual assault on a child by a person in a position of trust, internet exploitation of a child, and stalking. She has been detained at the Douglas County Detention Center on a $50,000 bond.
The Douglas County Sheriff’s Office confirmed that Whalin had been a part of the Douglas County School District since July 2021 and has been placed on administrative leave. The school district is cooperating with the investigation into the matter, which remains ongoing.
