UK Citizen Dies After Hair Transplant in Turkey

A UK citizen has passed away after undergoing a hair transplant and dental work in Turkey.

The individual reportedly had a hair procedure at a clinic in Istanbul’s Fulya district upon arriving in the country, followed by dental treatment the next day in the Ayazaga area. After returning to his hotel, he fell ill and was taken to Seyrantepe Hamidiye Etfal Training and Research Hospital, where he later died. An investigation is underway, awaiting the autopsy results to determine the cause of death.

The Foreign, Commonwealth & Development Office confirmed their engagement with local authorities regarding the British national’s demise in Turkey.

Turkey has emerged as a popular destination for affordable hair transplants, capturing a significant portion of the global market due to its cost-effective yet high-standard procedures. The country attracts over a million individuals annually for hair restoration treatments, a number projected to increase to 1.1 million by 2025.

Despite the flourishing industry, tragic incidents have occurred. A recent case involved the death of Martyn Latchman, 38, following a hair transplant procedure in Istanbul. The clinic he visited, known for its esteemed reputation and advanced technology, is currently under scrutiny by health authorities.

The lure of cost savings compared to the UK’s higher prices motivates many Britons to seek cosmetic procedures in Turkey, despite the growing concerns over safety and quality. Previous reports indicate several British nationals have died in Turkey due to elective medical procedures, prompting caution and thorough verification of medical practitioners before undergoing surgery in the country.
