An incident during a vacation in Italy left a British woman with severe burns that hindered her ability to walk for over a year and a half. Annie Perez, a Londoner diagnosed with epilepsy at a young age, suffered burns to 11% of her body after experiencing a seizure in a hot shower.
Following her hospitalization in Italy and subsequent transfer to a hospital in London, Annie endured a lengthy recovery period. The extent of her burns was so severe that she required assistance to walk for 18 months, with some burns reaching down to the bone.
Despite the passage of more than three years since the accident in June 2022, Annie continues to undergo therapy for her injuries. She is now seeking funds to preserve her ability to have children in the future through egg freezing.
Annie, a charity manager, recounted waking up in the hospital surrounded by bandages on her limbs and the challenging process of unwrapping them to reveal the extent of her injuries. She faced physical and emotional struggles during her recovery, including nerve damage in her left ankle and ongoing therapy sessions.
Although the incident significantly impacted her life, Annie has shown resilience and determination in her recovery journey. She has adapted to the challenges, including using mobility aids, and has found moments of joy despite the difficulties she has faced.
