A vast airport with a historical past has undergone a remarkable transformation, shedding its former identity. Tempelhof Airport, originally constructed in the 1920s in Berlin, was later reimagined to showcase the might of the Third Reich. Its immense crescent-shaped terminal, measuring a staggering 1.2km in length, stands as one of the largest single-roof structures globally.
Following World War II, Tempelhof Airport symbolized hope during the Berlin Blockade of 1948–49, serving as a vital lifeline for the city during the Berlin Airlift when the Soviet Union attempted to wrest control from Western Allies. By 2008, the airport ceased operations, officially closing on October 30. Two years later, the city transformed the 380-hectare airfield into Tempelhofer Feld, Berlin’s largest inner-city park.

One notable feature is a six-kilometer loop tracing the old runways, repurposed for cycling, skating, and jogging, providing city dwellers with a unique recreational space. The park’s unconventional charm has attracted international attention, with Hollywood actress Glenn Close recently filming scenes for an upcoming project at the former airport. The site’s versatility has also made it a preferred location for various film productions seeking to capture diverse settings.
