A tragic incident occurred in Menorca as a tourist lost his life when the car he was in drove off a ferry and plunged into the sea. The 67-year-old man was in a vehicle that witnesses reported veering off course and falling into the freezing water while disembarking from the ferry. Divers initiated a rescue operation, but despite their efforts to resuscitate the man for over half an hour, he was pronounced dead at the scene due to cardiac arrest.
The unfortunate event took place at the commercial port of Ciutadella in Menorca around 9 pm on Thursday. The car, which had just disembarked from the Margarita Salas de Baleà ria ferry, suddenly deviated from its intended path and ended up in the water off the eastern dock of the Son Blanc breakwater.
Emergency services responded swiftly to the incident, deploying advanced life support ambulances, basic life support services, and fire crews to the scene. Despite efforts to extract the driver from the vehicle and provide medical assistance, the man could not be saved.
Authorities are now investigating the circumstances of the incident, including whether the vehicle had any mechanical issues or brake failure that led to the tragic outcome. The port management confirmed that the facilities were in proper condition, raising questions about the cause of the car veering off the road and into the sea.
