The 2026 induction ceremony for the Canadian Basketball Hall of Fame welcomed notable figures such as Jamaal Magloire, Dave Smart, and Miranda Ayim on Thursday evening. Magloire, a former NBA player, made history as the first Canadian to play for the Toronto Raptors in 2011 after a successful 12-season NBA career, earning an all-star title in 2004 with the New Orleans Hornets. Currently, he holds the position of vice-president for the Scarborough Shooting Stars team in the Canadian Elite Basketball League, following his coaching stint with the Raptors during their championship-winning season in 2018-19.
Dave Smart’s legacy at Carleton University saw the men’s basketball program thrive, securing an impressive 13 U Sports championships under his leadership. Miranda Ayim, a pivotal member of Canada’s senior women’s national team, had the honor of co-flag-bearing with Nathan Hirayama at the Tokyo Olympics in 2021.
The 2026 class, unveiled on July 2, also includes Michael Meeks, Anna Stammberger, Dan Meagher, Teresa Kleindienst, Peter (Doc) Ryan, Janice Deakin, and Dr. Andrew Pipe, expanding the roster to ten individuals to be celebrated at a ceremony in St. Stephen, N.B.
