“Gmail Users Warned of AI Scanning Concerns”

An alert of significance has been issued to numerous Gmail users, especially if you are uneasy about the concept of artificial intelligence scanning your emails. The latest advisory comes from Lori Greiner, a well-known American TV personality and entrepreneur.

Over the weekend, the star of Shark Tank shared a message on Instagram urging Gmail account holders to be cautious. The post stressed the importance of sharing this information with friends and family to ensure their safety and awareness.

The warning revolves around Google’s new AI capabilities integrated into Gmail. These features aim to enhance user experience by providing smart searches, contextual replies, and email summaries. While Google asserts it does not read messages for its own purposes, Greiner remains apprehensive.

In her Instagram post, the celebrity emphasized the necessity of heeding this alert for Gmail users. According to Greiner, Google has been permitting AI to scan all email content, including sensitive information like financial documents, tax details, and personal conversations, without users’ knowledge.

If this revelation raises concerns for you, there is a simple solution to disable this setting. Greiner reassures users that it takes only 30 seconds to turn off this feature.

To deactivate the AI scanning in Gmail, follow these steps:

1. Access Settings and select “see all settings.”
2. Scroll down to locate “Smart features.”
3. Disable smart features in Gmail, Chat, and Meet to prevent Google from scanning your emails.
4. Additionally, deselect the boxes for Workspace and other products under “Manage Workspace Smart Features” to further limit AI data usage.

Google maintains that personal data remains confidential and secure, assuring users that their information is not accessed by Google’s team or external parties. The tech giant clarified that its AI models, like Gemini, do not undergo training using personal emails. Gemini in Gmail operates securely within the inbox, processing only specific tasks as requested by the user.

However, for those uncomfortable with AI scanning, it is advisable to uncheck the smart feature box in Gmail settings.
