Initially launching in the US and expanding to other regions later, the update brings three key improvements to Gmail users in the UK. The first enhancement, AI Overviews, allows users to search their inbox using natural language questions. For instance, users can ask specific questions like “Who provided a quote for bathroom renovation last year?” and Gmail will locate relevant emails and summarize essential details.
AI Overviews also streamline email threads by providing concise summaries of lengthy conversations, reducing the time spent navigating through long chains of emails. Additionally, the upgrade offers advanced writing assistance tools, including smart replies and composition aids to facilitate email drafting and proofreading.
For instance, when organizing a family event, users can utilize Suggested Replies to generate quick responses matching their writing style. While features like Help Me Write and Suggested Replies are free for all users, the Proofread tool, offering grammar and style suggestions, is exclusive to Google AI Pro and Ultra subscribers.
Moreover, the update includes AI-powered inbox filters to prioritize important messages and provide task overviews to manage email overload effectively. Another feature, “Catch me up,” offers a snapshot of significant life updates found in Gmail, such as reservations, deliveries, and event changes.
