Lightspeed Commerce Inc. has announced that 250 positions will be affected by a recent round of layoffs and decision not to fill certain job openings. The software company, headquartered in Montreal, stated that these measures aim to streamline operations and free up resources for enhancing customer growth and product developments.
Stephanie Princivil, a company spokesperson, refrained from specifying the exact departments impacted by the layoffs and vacant position closures. However, she mentioned that Lightspeed will release more details during its upcoming quarterly earnings report.
In recent years, Lightspeed has implemented various staff reductions as Dax Dasilva, the company’s founder and CEO, resumed his leadership role. Additionally, the company pursued a strategic review to enhance shareholder value, ultimately choosing to focus on its North American retail and European hospitality sectors while divesting Upserve, a restaurant management tools business it previously owned.
